Vascular diagnostics: how to diagnose and treat arterial and venous pathologies

Vascular diagnostics is of primary importance in the diagnosis and treatment of arterial and venous vascular diseases, of primary or traumatological origin.

At the Quisisana accredited private hospital it is possible to undergo vascular diagnostic tests in Ferrara. To begin a therapeutic path aimed at the resolution or improvement of pathologies affecting veins and arteries.

What pathologies does vascular diagnostics treat

Vascular diagnostics has screening purposes, and is very useful in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack and stroke. Through invasive and non-invasive methods, it allows to diagnose and monitor a wide range of more or less common pathologies:

  • aneurysms of the abdominal aorta, of every vein and artery
  • carotid stenosis
  • chronic obstructive arteriopathies
  • varices
  • phlebitis
  • deep vein thrombosis

The pathologies are mainly investigated through non-invasive vascular diagnostic techniques and, therefore, through the ecocolordoppler. Painless examination, which does not require special preparation, the ecocolordoppler allows you to immediately evaluate the state of the veins and arteries of the upper and lower limbs, abdomen and neck. In this way, the specialist can make his diagnosis, monitor the progress of a pathological condition and carry out the necessary checks of fistulas for hemodialysis. Or, checkups following endovascular or traditional surgery.

What is the ecocolordoppler

Non-invasive vascular diagnostic tool, the Doppler ultrasound allows you to study the blood flow inside arteries, supraortic trunks, large abdominal vessels and the venous system. By returning red and blue images, it allows the specialist to identify even minimal lesions of the venous and arterial walls. In this way, the doctor can diagnose and monitor cardiovascular diseases and atherosclerotic lesions which - by narrowing the venous or arterial walls - obstruct blood flow.

Non-invasive, the Doppler ultrasound is neither painful nor annoying. If it concerns the abdomen, it is necessary to fast and avoid, in the previous days, the intake of foods that cause bloating. The patient is placed on the couch, and the doctor passes a probe over the area to be examined, displaying the images in real time on the ultrasound screen.

At Quisisana it is possible to undergo:

  • Supraortic trunks ecocolordoppler (TSA), to check for plaques in the vessels that carry blood to the brain
  • Venous and arterial ecocolordoppler of the lower and upper limbs
  • Doppler ultrasound of the abdominal aorta, to check for any dilation of the aorta

These examinations can be carried out under an agreement, through the USL Ferrara and with the payment of the “ticket” only. At the patient's disposal there is an excellent structure, characterized by a high selectivity in the choice of its specialists.

This is an accredited activity

You can book the service of Vascular diagnostics via Azienda USL Ferrara (CUP, pharmacies, etc.), find out how, or contact us for more informations.

Angiological visit, how it takes place

The angiological visit is used to evaluate venous and arterial circulation, especially to prevent complications resulting from an already diagnosed pathology.

It is recommended to undergo an angiological examination in case of:

  • diabetes
  • hypertension
  • ulcers or varices
  • over 55 years of age
  • heart risk

After a first phase of anamnesis, in which information on the patient and his symptoms is collected, the doctor performs a palpation of the vascular sites and a thorough observation to highlight the presence of varicose veins or abnormal redness. Finally, with the stethoscope, he listens to the pulsations, paying attention to vascular murmurs that could indicate the presence of an aneurysm.
